Coaching FAQ’s
Holistic Therapeutic Coaching is based in Transpersonal Psychology as well as holistic coaching practices grounded in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model of psychotherapy.
Holistic Therapeutic Coaching work allows for various processes to take place, promoting insights and connections from the body, mind, emotions, and spirit to arise freely and intuitively. Holistic Therapeutic Coaching provides a whole person approach to healing and personal development, including not just the mental and emotional aspects of ourselves, but our somatic and spiritual intelligences as well.
Therapeutic Coaching is a collaborative, co-creative, non-pathologizing, and client-led form of personal counseling. Guided by Transpersonal Psychology and holistic models of coaching, I work with the principle that you are innately whole, intuitively connected, creative, resilient, and resourceful, already having within you what is needed for healing, transformation, and leading a balanced fulfilled life.
What is Therapeutic Coaching? - Therapeutic Coaching offers the best of both coaching and therapy modalities. While coaching supports clients in building skills and actualizing personal goals, therapy is backed by psychological knowledge and mental health training, and offers therapeutic support. A Therapeutic Coach embodies both methods, having the education, knowledge, and experience to more effectively help their client attain their goals as well as the ability to support what inhibits and stands in their way. Therapeutic Coaching believes that the effectiveness of personal growth comes from healing and transformation, as well as the actualization of one's strengths and innate resources.
What is a Holistic Approach? - A holistic approach addresses the whole or holistic health of a person: body, mind, emotions, and spirit. It works with the understanding that healing does not come solely from working with the mind or emotions, but comes from including the body's intelligence and spiritual health as well. It understands the interconnectedness of oneself, as well as honors each part of the whole. A holistic approach works to understand and honor all parts of oneself toward inner harmony and true Self Leadership (see IFS below).
What is Transpersonal Psychology? - Transpersonal Psychology, also known as "spiritual psychology", is a subschool of psychology with the goal of enhancing the study of mind-body relations, consciousness, and spirituality. Founded in the early works of Carl Jung, William James, and Abraham Maslow, it integrates the spiritual and transcendent aspects of the human experience with the framework of modern psychology. It validates the importance of including spiritual health within healing and personal growth work.
What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)? - Internal Family Systems model or IFS, was created by Richard Schwartz and applies family systems concepts to the intrapsychic realm (our internal psyche or world). The IFS model proposes that individuals’ subpersonalities interact and change in many of the same ways that families and other human groups do. It addresses the many parts of ourselves (our multiplicity) and the importance of creating harmony among them (much like an internal family that is within us). IFS promotes befriending, loving, and accepting all of our parts in order to create complete resonance and wholeness within. It helps one lead the many parts of themselves from their core or true Self, also known as developing Self Leadership. IFS is an incredibly efficient and powerful method of building inner harmony and balance in all areas of life. It is also commonly known as “Parts Work”. To learn more, visit here.
