Moving Beyond Our Stories

Finding magic in Donegal, Ireland – April 2018

“When the stories of our life no longer bind us, we discover within them something greater. We discover that within the very limitations of form, of our maleness and femaleness, of our parenthood and our childhood, of gravity on the earth and the changing of the seasons, is the freedom and harmony we have sought for so long. Our individual life is an expression of the whole mystery, and in it we can rest in the center of the movement, the center of all worlds.” – Jack Kornfield, A Path with Heart: A Guide Through the Perils and Promises of Spiritual Life

This one is for my beloved queer community ~

As queer people, we want so badly to belong, to just belong somewhere. We are told we are different, unacceptable, unloveable, not normal, etc. We take these words on as our own, make them our story, and then use them to find belonging with others with the same story.

The only problem with stories, is that we can get stuck in the narrative. We repeatedly tell these stories to ourselves and others. Human brains are prone to story telling, it’s how we know to make sense of things, it’s how we relate and communicate with one another, but it also can keep us stuck in our past or future. We don’t know how or aren’t able to be with what is about a situation or person, so we shut down and take on a narrative. It’s an important and necessary place holder in a lot of cases. It helps us make sense of some really awful situations, or help us make sense of what is deeply missing from our lives.

But what about who we are beyond our stories?

What if we didn’t get stuck in them, whether voluntarily or involuntarily? What about all that we are outside of our pasts, and futures, and who we truly are in this moment? Who are you right in this moment? Can you accept and love that person, all their feelings, their moods, their thoughts, their needs and desires? Can you allow your full self to be right here, right now? Can you love and accept all the things that made you who you are in this very moment? Could you release the past experiences, the past versions of yourself, or future projections and invite all of yourself to be fully present and connected now?

All the energies/feelings/knowledge you have within you right now, are who you are today, not what you had in the past, or what you think you will have tomorrow. What is real, is all that you are right now. This is not to invalidate the reality of your past experiences, but to free you to what’s real and possible about yourself today.

What would it look like if you saw yourself outside your story? What would it look like if you saw others outside of theirs?

Further as queer people, what would it look like if we related to one another outside our stories? What would be all the many qualities of ourselves that could we connect on? Who are we outside of our queerness, our genders, our experience within queerness or queer community? What are we most interested in having in our lives? What makes us come alive, what breaks our hearts? What are we here to do?

I desire to know, and long to help. What I know to be true, is that you as a human, already have within you everything you need to live a love-filled, joyful, peaceful, secure, and abundant life. This is possible to you as you are right now, not the you from the past, or the you tomorrow. I see you outside of your story and what I desire most as a fellow queer person and human, is to relate to you from that place, not from where you keep telling yourself that you are.

I want to feel a sense of belonging with you as we feel our belonging deep within ourselves. I want for others to find belonging outside of their stories, inside of themselves, and inside of authenticity itself.

We are humans with endless potential, we get to receive, allow and be open to all that is possible. Are you allowing that for yourself? Where do you find yourself staying stuck, being triggered, feeling lost, having feelings that you don’t know how to be with? Do you feel connected to your source of wholeness, inner wisdom, inner peace, healing capacity, the fullest expression of your most authentic self, outside of stories, outside of the story of how the world sees you?

Would you be willing to let the world see the truest you?

As a fellow human, as a queer person, and as a person outside of their identities, I am passionate about helping you connect to ALL that you are. As a coach, I help you do this. In my coaching work, I help you part the waters through all the stories, I help you be within and allow healing to take place, to find and/or connect to your truest self, find all the qualities of this self, and grow a capacity to be with and led by this self.

Look past your stories and into the wholeness of your being, align with your fullest potentials and allow yourself to discover your most inner belonging.

In belonging with ourselves, we can truly belong with one another.
